(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) January 29, 2014 – The Americana Music Association congratulates Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell who took home a Grammy Award in the Best Americana Album for their critically acclaimed duets record Old Yellow Moon. This achievement caps a widely successful year for the duo, which was also honored with two awards at the 2013 Americana Music Association Honors & Awards Show—“Album of the Year” and “Duo/Group of the Year.”
In a week of ceremonial tributes and remarkable musical events, the Americana Music Association contributed with an unforgettable night of performances during a pre-Grammy salute to the Everly Brothers: Remembering Phil Everly. As The LA Times wrote of the night, “Performances were predictably inspired, mindful of the unique harmonies the Everlys brought to their music, and to the spirit of invention the siblings displayed in bringing country tradition together with a rock attitude in the mid-'50s.” The musical celebration, which was held at the legendary Troubadour on Saturday night, featured numerous Americana talents including Bonnie Raitt, Rodney Crowell, Ry Cooder, T-Bone Burnett, Joe Henry, Jim Lauderdale, Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith of Dawes, The Milk Carton Kids, Sarah Jarosz, Rhiannon Giddens of the Carolina Chocolate Drops and many more.
The outstanding night was made possible with support from Vector Management, Nissan and Middle Tennessee State University. For the past few years, Vector has hosted artists such as The Fray at the Troubadour on the Saturday night of Grammy Weekend. Last year with Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell featured as the headliners, it was natural to team up with the Americana Music Association leading into full collaboration this year. Nissan has been the title sponsor of the festival, conference and organization for the past three years and last fall, MTSU became a higher education partner collaborating on events to bring artists to the classroom and students to the association’s special events.
Adding to the excitement of the weekend, the 2012 Americana Music Honors & Awards show was recognized with a Mid-South Regional Emmy® Award in the special event coverage category. The banquet and live telecast were held on January 25th at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
